excavating bright ideas in social innovation

The Mine is a catalyst for social innovation. We're equipping Oklahoma City's entrepreneurs, nonprofits, creatives, and developers to create a better world.

Social innovation and entrepreneurship apply business principles and startup methods to creatively address community issues. At The Mine, our goal is to combine the best of entrepreneurial innovation and sustainability with the best of the social sector's compassion and empathy.

How do we create social impact? Primarily through a prestigious fellowship for Oklahoma City's top young professionals. Read more about the Fellowship and apply below.

The Mine was founded in Tulsa in 2013 by I-CCEW, the George Kaiser Family Foundation,  and the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation. After 5 years of operation and 10 completed projects in Tulsa, The Mine expanded to Oklahoma City in 2018 with the support of the Inasmuch Foundation and the Arnall Family Foundation.

The Mine Fellowship - Oklahoma City

The cornerstone of The Mine is the Fellowship program. Over 9 months (from September to May), talented and diverse young professionals from across Oklahoma City work on high impact social innovation projects for the community, while developing the leadership and problem-solving skills to accelerate their careers.

  • The Fellows. Mine Fellows are future city, state, and world leaders. They are smart, hard-working, intellectually curious, driven, motivated, and they have a passion for improving their community.

  • The Projects. Mine projects are sourced from our extensive network of nonprofits, social entrepreneurs, and community leaders. Each project is different and unique, but all are big and exciting with the ability to have a real and lasting impact on Oklahoma City. Learn more about past Mine projects here.

  • The Professional Development. Mine Fellows develop powerful leadership, executive communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Our uniquely curated curriculum utilizes problem-solving frameworks from the world's top consulting firms and innovative startup methodologies including human centered design and an emphasis on early stage customer discovery. Throughout the project, Mine Fellows also expand their network through exposure to OKC's top business and social impact leaders.

The 2019-2020 Fellowship is currently in progress. Applications for the 2020-2021 Fellowship will open in May 2020.
